Volunteering is an age-old tradition for many families and individuals which can bring many people a great source of pride, satisfaction, and comfort in knowing that they have given their time, energy, and attention to serve and help others. There are many different types of volunteering: spot volunteering, episodic volunteering, regular volunteering, marginal volunteering, and virtual volunteering. Here in the Great State of Tennessee, we are no strangers to volunteering.
“Volunteers are the only workforce for many organizations and constitute an important component of the workforce for many others, including those that employ paid staff. Individuals may be motivated to volunteer by altruism and concern for others, by their own needs, or by some combination of factors. In the workplace, they are usually affected by many of the same principles of motivation as paid staff.” (Nonprofit Management: Principles and Practice – Michael J. Worth, 2014)
